5 Things that Fuel my Sewl

So, how is everyone doing in this New Year?  What are some of your New Year Resolutions?  I wanted to share with you some of my to-do's for this year and maybe they will inspire you to look at this year as your opportunity to fuel your "sewl".  :)

1. FAMILY

One thing I love is capturing more moments with my family.  I'm always watching my kids and making memories with them.  It's so important to really take time and enjoy each and every moment, because they grow up so fast!

This past year, we went to Disneyland and the kids were so surprised!  They loved every ride, every character, every shop we went into.  We all had so much fun.  I want to remember all of those family fun-time moments.

I've heard that GoPros are a great resource for this.  This little Hero5 Session seems like a great idea.  It's compact, easy to use, and can be used on any adventure!  I can't wait to use it!

2. WELL BEING

This year, I want to focus more on taking care of myself.  My well-being is important because I want to be around for my family for a long time.  After all, I can't make memories with them if I'm ill or not taking care of myself first!

I bought a set of kettle bells for $20.  I thought it was going to be a waste.  But, I love them!  They are so easy to use and I picked the lighter weights so that it's easier for me to start out with.  I use the 15lb bell for upright rows and swings.  The 5lb weight is perfect for lifting during a side plank.  I love doing kettle bell clean and presses or Russian twists with my 10lb bell.  If you can do these exercises 10 times each, and do 3-5 rounds or sets, you've got yourself and full body workout!!

3. SEWING!

My whole reason for Sewlsister is because of sewing!  I want to create and sew more this year and grow my craft.  I love what I do...being able to create something out of scraps of fabric and turn it into a beautiful work of art of quilts, blankets, clothing...What an amazing art form!  My focus this year is to help bring sewing back into the mainstream by teaching kids.  It teaches them self-discipline, self management, and technical abilities. You’re creating something out of nothing. Our life is something that we get to unravel and put together. Each and everyday is a different part of your quilt that you are creating and you are putting all of the different fabrics into your life. When you put it altogether, it seems like a mish-mash but, really, it’s a beautiful piece of art.  Seeing a child's eyes light up when they sew and create is magical.  Seeing them grow helps me to grow.

4. PERSONAL GROWTH

I always loved to read as a child.  Now, I find it harder to get into with so many things happening in our lives.  But, it's nice to make time for it and really focus on those books that will help me grow in my personal relationships.  Personal growth is a big part of growing as an individual and learning how to better oneself.  We need to take time and do this, or we get stuck in a stagnant routine of the everyday life and it can become a fear to get outside of our comfort zone.  Reading books helps us to relieve the stress or fear of getting outside of normal lives by allowing us to open our minds and examine new ways of thinking and living.

A friend of mine challenged me to read Conversations with God with her this year.  So, I'm taking on the challenge and awaiting my copy of this book coming in the mail.

5. FAITH

Along the same lines as personal growth, building my faith is big on my list this year.  I feel a calling to grow myself spiritually.  I want to be able to react better in situations that require more of my grace and love, rather than acting out of fear, anger, or remorse.  You may have different ways of finding this for you.  Whether you find this through meditation, going to temple or church, or fellowship with those of the same faith as you, these are all great ways to grow and develop yourself and become closer to your true loving self.  If you feel a calling, please take a look at our very first church service of this year!

I hope you are able to find value in this post.  Please let me know by leaving a message here, or sending me a hello at hellosewlsister@gmail.com .  I look forward to hearing how you intend to grow yourself and fuel your sewl this year!
